Artificial Intelligence-based detection and prevention of phishing scams

Phishing, social engineering, machine learning,

Phishing remains one of the most prevalent cybersecurity attacks in recent years. Through phishing scams, adversaries trick unsuspecting users into divulging sensitive information and performing malicious activities, a practice known as social engineering. Social engineering ultimately causes financial losses or emotional distress among users. Common types of phishing include email phishing, smishing (SMS or text message phishing), and vishing (phishing conducted via voice messages). Most of the phishing involves the sharing of malicious URLs, where unsuspecting users might click the links. Some solutions for tackling phishing include rule-based filters, static whitelists or blocklists, sender verification, and, more recently, machine learning-based solutions. We are interested in studying how to solve phishing using machine learning approaches.
